Name: Gurjeet Singh
Graduation Year: 2022
Q: Where were you prior to MSHM? (Undergrad major, undergrad university, job?)
I was in Bloomington at Indiana University pursuing my bachelor’s in Healthcare Management and Policy.
Q: Where are you at now?
After a brief excursion to Austin, Texas. I’m now back in Indianapolis. I work for DaVita Kidney Care as a Clinical Programs Analyst. Additionally, I am the President/Founder of Hoosier Hospice Care, a home hospice agency, that provides in-home hospice care to patients in Hamilton County and Indianapolis.
Q: What are your biggest takeaways from the program?
My biggest takeaway from the MSHM program was realizing my own potential and where I belong in the Healthcare space. Prior to the MSHM program, I wasn’t sure what kind of career I would like to pursue, or what my greatest skill even was. However, after the numerous leadership opportunities I received in the MSHM program, I knew that my greatest skillset were leadership, strategy, and organization. This led me to play big and to take a chance on myself by starting Hoosier Hospice Care.
Q: Did you feel supported by the program faculty and staff?
Absolutely. Even though it’s been almost 2 years now, April Grudi is still my mentor, and she is supporting me as a thought partner for my company. I am grateful for the lifelong connection I developed in the MSHM program.
Q: What was your favorite part of the MSHM program so far?
My favorite part of the MSHM program was my classmates. My colleagues quickly became my friends, and a majority of us keep up regularly. I made so many incredible memories with them and it’s amazing to see what your friends can accomplish after graduating, especially in a field as complex as healthcare.
Q: What is some advice you have for the next generation of MSHM students?
Take a chance on yourself and never sell yourself short! If you’re in the MSHM program currently, you’re already betting on yourself in hopes of a brighter future. Never stop doing this. The greater the risk, the higher the reward. The MSHM program does an incredible job developing the skills and network you need to take those calculated risks, but it is entirely on you to roll the dice. Adversity breeds greatness, so always remember to aim high, play it big, and to challenge yourself both inside and outside of MSHM.
