David Blasdel has worked with MSHM students since the inception of the MSHM program! He is an exceptional leader that continues to dedicate his time to help develop the healthcare leaders of tomorrow.
How would you describe your journey to precepting?
“I started working as a Patient Care Tech in 2001 in our Critical Care Unit while pursuing my undergrad in education. That eventually led to a career in Clinical Education. IU Health began to pursue Lean Transformation in 2013 and I began in our regional office in 2014.
I am currently an Improvement Leader at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Our current focus is on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of opening the new Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC). The Office of Transformation assists the organization with facilitation, project management, change management, and process development. We are also working with IU Health leadership at all levels of the South Central Region to coach through this tremendous change.
The 2022 school year will be about stabilization in the new facility and MSHM students will have a role in performing analysis and developing tools that allow leaders to make decisions about where to best focus our improvement efforts. In the past, students have worked on radiology time studies, patient experience data analysis, improvement work, and Design and Construction event preparation.
The MSHM program is filled with high-performing, energetic leaders who will surely impact the future of healthcare in America. I have particularly enjoyed seeing how students are entering the workforce after graduating and I can take pride in shaping their entrance into healthcare knowing that they will be the influential leadership of tomorrow.”
