Q: What brought you to the MSHM program?
A: Before joining the MSHM program, I attended Indiana University Bloomington for my undergraduate education. I completed my undergrad in three years with a BS in Healthcare Management & Policy and minors in Law & Public Policy and Psychology. I applied to this program because it provided the perfect opportunity to expand on my passion for the business side of healthcare, encouraged real-world application through fellowship opportunities, and offered a way to challenge myself through the accelerated curriculum.
Q: What did you enjoy most about the MSHM program?
A: The MSHM curriculum has prepared me with the background, skills, and confidence needed to succeed in my professional career. I appreciated how the MSHM Program prioritized leadership and professional development. Additionally, this program provided me with endless learning opportunities in the classroom. For example, I obtained 15 different certificates- including certifications in the Business of Life Sciences, Lean A3 Thinking, Project Management, and The 4 Essential Roles of Leadership. In my opinion, one of the most valuable components of this program came through the opportunity to apply these classroom learnings to a real-world industry problem during my practicum/capstone project.
Q: Where did you complete your practicum site?
A: My practicum was held with IU Health’s system-level Culture of Safety Team as a project coordinator graduate fellow. The capstone project I led centered around IU Health’s data collection and reporting software being leveraged throughout the 16 hospitals and many outpatient services within the system. From this experience, I sharpened my communication, project management, leadership, data & analytics, and healthcare literacy skills.
Q: What are you doing now, post-graduation?
A: I will be working for Impact Advisors – a healthcare consulting firm – where I will have the opportunity to work alongside their strategy and operations team. I am looking forward to applying the skills I learned throughout the MSHM program to my post-graduate career!
