Assistant Director Lyndsey Swan
Short description of what you do for the MSHM program
I am responsible for the overall management of student services, advising, and program operations for the MSHM joint degree in the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University Bloomington. I oversee the planning, designing, and evaluation of graduate student operations and services for the MSHM program.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Seeing MSHM students grow and develop into transformational healthcare leaders is what I enjoy most about my work. I am wholeheartedly here for the students. I am blessed to be a small part of their success in the program and take pride in being a voice for the students along their journey. One of the main reasons I took on this role was to be a part of the development of a new program. I wanted to use my experience as a student and the skills I learned in the MSHM program to create an impactful student experience.
What is the most helpful advice you’ve received?
Advice from Rosalind (preceptor at IU Health) – Everything does not have to be perfect to work and have a positive impact. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Be open to feedback and continuous improvement.
My advice – Take full advantage of all the amazing opportunities the MSHM program provides for students. Approach each situation with intentionality and find value in what you are doing. This is how you will get the most of out of this program.
