What’s Happening in the WC?:
Thank you to everyone who attended our first GBM of the semester and participated in our tampon tax tabling! Looking ahead at the rest of the month, we are excited to announce our auction beneficiary: Indiana Women in Need Foundation! Congratulations to our auction committee heads: Isabella Kaufman (Live Auction), Brianna Morton (Silent Auction), Shibani Mody & Caitlyn Morrison (Sponsorship), Isla Blansette (Food & Bev), Alissa Yenglin Powell (Set Up & Tear Down), and Lyndsey Lyngholm & Caitlyn Fields (Check In & Check Out). Thank you for taking on these roles – we can’t wait to see what you accomplish for this year’s auction! Our second GBM of the semester will take place on October 26th from 4:30-5:30 pm in room 300. This meeting will focus heavily on auction committees, so be sure to attend!
Additionally, mentorship pairings will be out shortly with a social for the matchups (and any other members who would like to attend) at Pins on Thursday, October 26th after the GBM! Finally, stay tuned to our social media for more information regarding our Fall Apparel Sale next week!
Hey, 1L!:
This month, we are excited to kick off our new advice section: “Hey, 1L!” This will become a regular monthly section featuring advice from older WC members to 1L’s or anyone who needs advice or encouragement. This month’s topic: How to Balance Law School and Life!
- Stay in touch with non-law school friends & family
Law school can be consuming and anxiety-inducing. Sometimes, it’s nice to either: (1) get the perspective of someone who isn’t in your current stage of life or (2) talk with people you love about things completely outside the realm of school to put it all into perspective.
- Look at your upcoming week & create a schedule
Invest in a nice planner (or iPad app) and sit down each Sunday to look ahead at your readings, assignments and extracurriculars for the week. Using a Google calendar helps keep things in order as well!
- Move your body!
Finding a physical activity you enjoy gives your mind a chance to relax and focus on something other than school. Moving your body has also been shown to improve mood and make you feel more productive!
- Keep separation between school & non-school life
When you are studying, put your phone away and focus on the task at hand. When you aren’t studying, try to be present in the moment and enjoy your time.
- Spend some time outside
Sometimes, when the world seems too stressful, being surrounded by nature helps put things in perspective. Grab your friends or a good podcast and go on a walk on the canal or IUPUI’s campus in between classes!
