Rafael Macía is a joint JD/PhD candidate in Law and Democracy with IU Maurer’s Center for Constitutional Democracy. Originally from Spain (where he obtained his LLB from the University of Navarra), Rafael completed his JD coursework in 2016 and is now in the final stages of writing his dissertation, which focuses on the legal and democratic dilemmas of incorporating the theory of constituent power into our understanding of constitutionalism in general and constitutional reform in particular.
During his talk, Rafael will discuss his experience as a comparative legal scholar navigating the world of American academia. He will particularly focus on the advantages and struggles of a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective when it comes to publishing, teaching, and applying for jobs in the US.”
