Biography:
Sharlene Chen’s research interests is family law and legal history. Prior to her doctoral studies, Sharlene worked as a research assistant at the Office of Research Integrity on a project under the Ministry of Education from 2020-2022. Her thesis at National Tsing Hua University, “The Legal Status and Right Protection of Human Fetus,” examines the legal status and protection of the human fetus from various perspectives. Her doctoral dissertation focuses on how the introduction of the Western legal system has impacted the traditional structure of Taiwanese families, particularly in the context of parent-child relationships. She takes a historical perspective to explore the evolution of the legal framework surrounding parent-child relationships in Taiwan. Her dissertation aims to deconstruct the traditional Taiwanese family and understand how the traditional Taiwanese family has been transformed and shaped.
