Check out why Forbes thinks that communication is the most important skill to have:
Spring ePDP Chats
In years past, IU has used the Adobe Connect chatroom to host ePDP chats. We use these chats to discuss the importance of reflection. This year, IU is making the transition to Zoom, so we used that chatroom feature instead. These chats also serve as a reminder to interns that they should be working on their ePDP prompts. Now is that sweet spot between midterms and finals in which they should be working on the prompts, as opposed to waiting until the end of the school year. Ideally, they should be working on them little by little over the entirety of the year, but students often procrastinate. This semester’s discussion was lively and in-depth. Interns seemed overall self-aware of their strengths and areas of improvement.
this day in LHSI history: first “scary meeting”
Affectionately dubbed “the scary meeting”, we began holding pre-interview workshops for the accepted applicants on March 27 and 28, 2014. These workshops emphasize the importance of professionalism and preparing for the interviews (did you know you can do a mock interview with a career professional?). After the first meeting, I received many compliments from mentors about applicant behavior in interviews. Go team! Thanks for paying attention in the workshops!

this day in LHSI history: expanded funding
In spring 2014 our applications expanded by 66% from the previous year. We didn’t want to turn away so many good applicants, so with the help of Dean Simon Rhodes, we asked the deans of the undergraduate programs of our interns if they’d fund an expansion of the program to 75 interns. They said yes on March 24, 2014 and have been funding those spots ever since. Thanks, deans! We appreciate your ongoing support!

How has your internship directly related to any classes you have taken?
My internship is relate to the immunology class I’m taking right now. The knowledge I have gained from my internship has helped in a tremendous way, that knowledge makes me understand the course better.
Hafsat Musa is a clinical laboratory science major in the IU School of Medicine and is interning with Dr. George Sandusky.
March Madness in the Office
“Seventy-three percent of workers said they look forward to going to work more when they’re part of an office pool,” according to a recent study by by Randstad U.S. “The survey asked over 1,000 workers about March Madness, and found that 89 percent of those surveyed said that participating in NCAA brackets at work helped build team camaraderie, and that this simple activity made their jobs more enjoyable.”

what we did over spring break
I spent spring break studying for the MCAT and working on my ePDP! One night I helped with a human scavenger hunt!
Katie
I spent my spring break prepping for the MCAT on June 1st!
Abby
I got to go to Florida for a few days with my fiancé and his family. It was too cold to spend any time at the beach, but it was still nice to get away! I also got to spend a few days with my family back home, which is always nice.
Macy
Lena got to go to Hawaii.
’nuff said.
And Brandi and Tia worked, poor things.

Showing up on time, taking the initiative, keeping the communication channels open, and taking pride in being part of a team are some of the key attributes that could make the internship experience fun and interesting for the interns.
