Are you joining us for the LHSI poster session on Friday, April 28? Our interns are excited to talk to you and share their work. Whether you’re a campus member or friends and family stopping by to support your student, they will answer your questions on their internships. Don’t know where to get started? We’ve included some common questions and conversation starters below.
What did you do in your internship? What did you do for this project?
Our interns should be able to explain this in simple terms so that anyone can understand. Feel free to ask follow-up questions if they get too scientific.
Why does it matter? What is the big picture? What is the impact on health, science, or healthcare?
All of the work our interns have done has broader implications for the world around us. Whether they’re helping to find a treatment for a disease or improve how healthcare is delivered, the interns can tell you all about it.
What will happen next? What further research, experiments, or implementation of healthcare practices will happen as a result of your findings or work?
They can tell you about further exploration that might occur as a result of their findings or how healthcare practitioners will use the information to improve their own work. There’s always a “what next?” involved in this work.
What did you learn this year? What did you like best about the experience?
From attention to detail to communicating work, our interns have been immersed in career-related work environments to develop key skills that can transfer to any profession. Let them share what they learned, what they loved…and perhaps even what they never want to do again.
In what ways did you grow as a professional? Were your career plans affirmed or changed?
Two of our program goals are to help students gain an emerging professional identity and explore their career goals. After at least 240 hours working with professionals, they should have great answers for both questions!
