Welcome to the Jacobs School of Music Retreat for Violin and Viola Teachers 2025. This summer we are offering a Seven Day in person course to cover Seven of the most important violin/viola Principles. Morning sessions will be devoted to lectures, and the afternoon sessions will put the principles into practice with participants and students. The Retreat will incorporate the philosophies of Shinichi Suzuki, Paul Rolland, and Mimi Zweig.
Day One: Physical principles and set-up
Day Two: Bow strokes – Martele, detache, legato, staccato, ricochet
Day Three: Shifting
Day Four: Vibrato
Day Five: Sequencing of etudes and scales
Day Six: Sequencing of repertoire
Day Seven: The path to artistry
You will be immersed in lectures, classes, observation of String Academy teaching and student master classes, student concerts, the Retreat Notebook which contains invaluable teaching information, and a combination of 3 hours of either your own individual private lessons, mini master classes, and/or String Academy faculty observing your teaching.
