There are two ways to pursue tutoring at the Jacobs School of Music.
Undergraduate Tutoring Center
The music theory department here at Jacobs is pleased to offer a free drop-in tutoring center for the remainder of the Fall 2024 semester. Jacobs undergraduate students enrolled in one of our core theory classes, written or aural skills, are eligible to sign up for half an hour of tutoring per week. Sessions will be held in the SM252 music theory AI office at the following times:
- Fridays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm
- Saturdays from 10:00 am 12:00 pm
To sign up, fill out this Qualtrics form by Thursdays at noon for tutoring on the following Friday or Saturday. We’ll be in touch no later than midday on Friday with your appointment time and the name of the theory tutor who will be working with you.
If you have questions, feel free to write to Prof. Roman Ivanovitch at rivanovi@iu.edu or Sarah Slover at mustheor@iu.edu.
Private Music Theory Tutoring
Several of our current and former music theory majors and associate instructors (AIs) are available for private tutoring sessions. Payment rates are set by mutual agreement between the tutor and the student. The department maintains a list of eligible and available tutors, although the list is provided only as a convenience to students and doesn’t reflect any endorsement on the part of the Department of Music Theory. Please reference the bulletin board outside of the SM225 office suite or email mustheor@iu.edu for a copy of the list.
