The Addict’s Wake
The Addict’s Wake is a new documentary being filmed in Brown County detailing the harsh reality of addiction. The critical look into this heath crisis is supported by the musical compositions of Jacobs School of Music student Alex Tedrow.
Bloomington Ballet Ensemble
The Bloomington Ballet Ensemble reconnected with students in Salem, Indiana to teach virtual dance classes; they also worked with Brown County Jr. and Sr. Swing Choirs in a virtual dance workshop involving several disciplines.
Singing Hoosiers Choir Collaboration
The Singing Hoosiers stayed connected with the Southridge High School Choir over zoom during the pandemic. These clinics included vocal exercises, audition tips, vocal anatomy lessons and question/answer sessions for high school students.
Classical Connections
Student organization Classical Connections provided one-on-one virtual instrumental lessons to students in Brown County and Paoli. Classical Connections members tracked the progress of rural students and developed specific curriculum based on their individual progressions.
The Community Engagement Summit
The Summit was a thrilling weekend filled with speeches from musical innovators, community engagement workshops, zoom improv, and over 150 participants. The Summit combined perspectives from engagement focused leaders in a variety of artistic spaces along with those from collaborators on the Jacobs/Center for Rural Engagement projects.
Soma Saxophone Quartet
The Soma Saxophone Quartet connected with band students at Brown County Schools through a virtual performance and talkback session. Students were able to ask questions about performing in an ensemble, studying music, and college life overall.
Reimagining Opera for Kids
Non-profit organization Reimagining Opera for Kids mounted a virtual opera in the summer of 2020, Ana Y Su Sombra. The organization used advanced video technology to individually record each singer and splice them together into a cohesive opera.
