Communities: Brown County
Launched: 6 performances and 6 weeks of lessons
Involved: 28 IU students and 2 IU faculty
Summary
Musical Time is a recital series offering community focused performances and lectures. During the six concerts at the Brown County Art Guild, each performer gave mini lectures before their performances. A six-week course of free lessons was also offered to interested community members. Taught by doctoral and grad students at the Jacobs School of Music, these lessons were available to all ages and ability levels.
“We think our project, Musical Time, really does break the traditional format of a public performance. We want to really communicate with our audiences what we’re playing, and really cater our program to what they would like and what would be more engaging. It’s kind of like storytelling, in a way.”
