We are thrilled to announce that the Washington County Community Foundation has received $2,500 of funding from the Lilly Scholars Network! This comes in partnership with Jacobs Community Engagement Specialist Alex Tedrow, a Lilly Scholar himself, who partnered with the Community Foundation for this application. The Lilly Lead Forward Community Grants pair charitable organizations with a Lilly Endowment Community Scholar (or multiple scholars) in their Indiana communities. Nonprofit organizations were eligible to apply for up to $2,500 in funding and scholars are encouraged to be part of the application process and to lead subsequent work on the projects.
The Lilly funding will be used to support a visit from the Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble in Salem. The Washington County Community Foundation and the Jacobs School of Music Community Engagement Initiative are working together to organize interactive masterclass sessions in Salem with the Fifth House Ensemble. This will follow a public performance of their hit-concert Undertale LIVE at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre in Bloomington. Undertale LIVE is more than just a concert; it is a live-action musical quest based on the notorious indie video game Undertale by Toby Fox. The concert will happen on September 1st, with the Fifth House Ensemble traveling to work with Salem school students and community members on September 2nd.
“We are so excited and honored to be a recipient of this grant! The Fifth House Ensemble residency will be a great opportunity to promote the arts in Washington County and concurrently allow members from the community and students from Indiana University to learn about important intersections between music, technology, and cultural engagement.”
-Alex Tedrow, Lilly scholar lead for this LFCG project
