BLOOMINGTON, IN – The Indiana University School of Optometry (IUSO) has received an extraordinary donation of 26,348 eyeglass frames from Eyemart Express. This generous gift valued at more than $1.3 million includes 19,088 women’s frames, 3,946 men’s frames, and 3,314 children’s frames. These frames will provide essential eyewear to low-income and uninsured patients at the school’s Atwater Eye Care Center in Bloomington, IN, and the Indianapolis Eye Care Center in Indianapolis, IN.
The donation supports the IU School of Optometry Community Outreach (IUSOCO) program, which strives to make vision care accessible to medically underserved populations.
“Many thanks to the entire Eyemart Express team for their generous support of our IUSOCO program, which makes eye care and vision correction more accessible for many of our patients,” says Dr. Neil A. Pence, Associate Dean for Clinical and Patient Care Services at IUSO. “This donation will allow patients to receive glasses at no or at a greatly reduced cost.”
“Access to clear vision is a fundamental need that can change the course of someone’s life,” says Katy Hanson, Chief Marketing and Merchandising Officer at Eyemart Express. “Partnering with Indiana University’s School of Optometry Community Outreach Program aligns with our mission at Eyemart Express to ensure that all our neighbors see every moment clearly, through expert eye care and genuine kindness.”
Eyemart Express, a national optical retailer, has a long-standing commitment to giving back to local communities. For more than 30 years, the company has improved lives by enhancing vision through various philanthropic initiatives.
“We are proud to support the IUSOCO program’s efforts to manifest this mission in communities throughout Indiana that need it most,” adds Hanson.
