Hello IUSO community,
The IU School of Optometry community embraces diversity, spreads compassion, and respects peers, colleagues, family, and friends. During the past weeks, many communities nationwide have spoken out against the injustice of systemic racism.
The AOSA at IU does not tolerate such injustices. Whether through education, protest, monetary donations, or providing resources, there are many ways you can engage in this fight against systematic racism. Therefore, we have an extensive list of Black Lives Matter action items and resources to participate and educate yourself on the current issue. We do ask, should you choose to protest, please do so safely as we are still in a pandemic. This list consists of both nationwide and local opportunities in order to facilitate change at many levels.
We are a community tasked to care for the health of eyes, but we must also remember the role we play in our community as a whole. Just as we support each other, we will continue to support a spirit of diversity and inclusion, even after the protests are over.
Through action, we will achieve change. To our Black community members: We hear you. We see you. We stand with you. #BlackLivesMatter.
Signed,
AOSA at IU
