After receiving a Psychology BA from Bethel University in 2006, Emily Grace came to IUSB where she completed both a Physics BS and an Education MS in 2011. While at IUSB she was remarkably engaged in all aspects of campus life and was especially active in Prof. Ilan Levine’s astroparticle-physics lab where she developed a deep interest in the search for dark matter. She gave numerous presentations at undergraduate and professional conferences while still a student.
She next went to the prestigious Royal Holloway University of London where she completed a Ph. D. in 2018. Now a physics professor at Northwestern College, she’s still interested in the search for dark matter, but she’s combined her many interdisciplinary interests and is currently researching several diverse topics, such as how to support women with young children stay active in research, the CURE model of class lab structure, and the development of novel optical tweezers for biological, and biochemical, applications.
Prof. Grace has remained a close friend of the department, and we have had the wonderful pleasure of hosting her for a departmental seminar as a professional physicist.
