Thanks to Dean Phillips in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and Executive Vice Chancellor Chen of Academic Affairs, we’re doing a wholesale replacement of the Keithly 169 multimeters that we’ve been using for many years. From what I understand, they’re at least in their third decade of heavy use; it’s amazing that they still work, but they’ve become less reliable and the cases are physically deteriorating.
Here’s a picture of one of the new B&K Precision 5491Bs that arrived this afternoon:
(Part of me is a little sad to see the Keithlys go, as I used the same units as an undergraduate in the early 1990s at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, so I’m somewhat attached to them for nostalgic reasons. I hope this isn’t too traumatic for any of our alumni!)
