The 2019 Undergraduate Research Conference was held on April 12, 2019, and several physics majors gave talks in a session entitled “X-Rays, Electrons, Bacteria and Dark Matter:”
- Nathan Walkoski: Dark Matter Acoustics
- Skye McDonald (actually a biology major): A Simple Test of Using Powder X-Ray Diffraction to Quantify Calcite to Aragonite Fraction in Carbonate Samples
- Shwetha Vittal: Using Powder X-Ray Diffraction to Identify and Characterize Magnetic Minerals in Lake-Bed Sediments in Conjunction with a Magnetostratographic Study of Turlock Lake, California
- Phillip Marmorino (dual math / physics): Bounding the Average Inner and Outer Radial Electron Distances in Atomic Systems Using the One-Electron Probability Density
Additionally, Kelly Allen presented a poster with the title “Measurement of Position Effects in An Acoustic Test Chamber.”
Here are a photos of the presentations in the order that they’re listed above:
And, here’s a shot of Prof. Henry Scott with his students Skye and Shwetha; hopefully we’ll be able to add shots of Prof. Ilan Levine with his students Nathan and Kelly, plus a group shot of all of us, soon:
This was an exceptionally strong set of presentations — congratulations to all!!
