Host Dr. Geoffre Sherman is joined by Dr. James Johnson, Professor of Sport Administration at Ball State University, and Dr. David Pierce, Professor of Sport Management at IUPUI.
In this episode, Dr. Johnson and Dr. Pierce share their research on the innovative approach Indiana high school athletics has taken to bring competitive parity to interscholastic athletics through the tournament success factor. This conversation was guided by Dr. Johnson and Dr. Pierce’s recently published research entitled Are We Punishing Success? An Evaluation of the Indiana Tournament Success Factor and Implications for Interscholastic Policy, which can be found through the Sports Innovation Journal. The topics discussed ranged from how the “TSF” is an innovative policy across the nation, how the policy could be better, how schools are affected by the policy if they are successful, and if there really is a public vs private school success debate.
