Welcome to the GoBabyGo @ IU Blog!
Thank you for taking the time to visit our blog, we are glad that you are here! This blog is a space for the current students involved in the GBG program to keep the community updated on our program and events.
What is GBG?
GoBabyGo provides adapted battery powered cars to help children with cognitive and motor delays gain mobility in their environments. GoBabyGo impacts the lives of these children at no cost to the families.
The GBG Team is made up of licensed physical therapists and physical therapy students working in collaboration with students from the School of Engineering and Technology at IUI as well as community volunteers.
Each year GoBabyGo @ IU hosts build sessions in the spring, summer, and fall. Our builds take place in three stages:
- Community Day: GBG volunteers evaluate every child by taking measurements and getting to know their abilities. We work with the families to design the vehicles to meet the child’s physical therapy goals, and learn about what the child loves to better customize their car.
- Build Day: GBG volunteers and engineers collaborate to customize the cars. Cars are rewired, adaptations are made based on needs identified during the evaluation, and decorations are added to create a car the children will love!
- Play Day: The children get to see and try out their new cars! GBG volunteers come together with the children and their families to teach them how to operate their new cars and give them a chance to play in their new cars with other children in the program.
