What is the Daily Titan?
The Daily Titan is the official mode of internal communication for daily updates for Indiana University South Bend. It is an email newsletter that is sent out each day to all students, faculty, and staff.
How do I sign up to receive the Daily Titan?
All students, faculty, and staff with IU South Bend email addresses automatically receive the Daily Titan.
Does everyone receive every post?
Faculty and Staff see items in all categories, and Students will receive items in the “student” category only.
Can I opt-out of receiving the Daily Titan?
No. As the designated official source of news and information for IU South Bend, all students, faculty and staff receive the Daily Titan through their university email address and cannot opt out.
Who can post?
Only specially designated users can post to the Daily Titan. If you wish to have a message posted and are not an official user, please complete the Daily Titan submission form on the Office of Communications and Marketing website by 2:00 p.m. at least one business day ahead of the desired run date due to the high volume of requests.
How do I get approved to post items myself?
If you have the need to post items to the Daily Titan regularly you can apply to have access. Contact Allison Smith, Communications and Marketing, at aboelcke@iusb.edu to request access to post.
What types of information can be posted to the Daily Titan and what cannot?
The Daily Titan is for news and information about IU South Bend related topics that appeal to a wide audience of students, faculty and staff. It is not for individual activities or for selling personal items, advertising for non-university events, or promoting points of view or opinions.
Who monitors the Daily Titan to make sure posted items are appropriate and correct?
If you submit a message to the Daily Titan, it is your responsibility to perform due diligence to ensure your post is appropriate for students, faculty, and staff and is accurate and grammatically correct. Administrators in the Office of Communications and Marketing monitor the Daily Titan and have the authority to edit or delete posts as needed.
What is the deadline for posting a message?
Items must be posted one business day prior so there is time to review, edit, and re-schedule if necessary. For those without access who wish to request a message be posted on the DT, please complete the Daily Titan submission form on the Office of Communications and Marketing website by 2:00 p.m. at least one business day ahead of time due to the high volume of requests.
How do I view past Daily Titan posts?
Although Daily Titan is sent out as an email, all posts are archived and stored online at https://blogs.iu.edu/dailytitan/.
How do I post a message?
If you have been given rights to post to the Daily Titan, go to https://blogs.iu.edu/dailytitan/wp-admin/ and login with your CAS username and password. Click “Post” and “Add New Post”. Fill in the title and body fields. Select the appropriate category from the right hand column. Once you’ve previewed your post, click “Publish.”
What are my responsibilities as a poster?
All students, faculty and staff at IU South Bend receive the Daily Titan, so it is essential that all posters are conscientious of what they post. If you are given access to post to the Daily Titan, it is your responsibility to perform due diligence to ensure your post is appropriate for students, faculty, and staff and is accurate and grammatically correct. While typos occasionally slip through, major formatting errors will typically be caught by a simple preview. The administrator of the Daily Titan reserves the right to remove posts and revoke posting permissions for users who violate these standards.
What are some overall best practices for Daily Titan messages?
The goal of the Daily Titan is to serve as a resource for students, faculty, and staff at IU South Bend to conveniently access the latest campus news. Our goal is to make the messages in the Daily Titan as concise and clearly formatted as possible for easy reading. Limit the amount of text you include, utilize bulleted lists instead of blocks of copy when possible, bold important details, and include links for further information instead of trying to place it all in the message itself. Avoid changing text colors, font styles and sizes, or inserting images as these can interfere with the clean, unified look of the Daily Titan.
Can I edit my post after I submit?
You can edit your post, even after you have submitted it. Log into the Daily Titan blog, click on your Posts, select your post, and click edit. Edits made after the posting deadline for the next day’s mailing may not be reflected in the e-mail.
Can I post images?
Yes, it is permitted to insert images into your Daily Titan post.
Can I add attachments?
Uploading attachments to posts is not permitted. The content of a message must be in editable text to meet accessibility standards. If a document is necessary for the message (such as a form that requires completed and submitted) please upload it to Google Drive or One Drive and include the share link for the document in your Daily Titan post.
How often can my message run?
Due to frequent high volumes of requests, messages should only be posted two times. We recommend timing them so the first one gives people time to schedule it on their calendars, and the second one as a reminder within a day or two of the event/activity/deadline.
Why didn’t my message run?
Posts may be rescheduled or deleted at the discretion of administrators due to high volume, formatting issues, inappropriate content, or general lack of adherence to guidelines.
Who do I contact with questions?
