In February 2022, the faculty senate approved a motion to limit the IU South Bend Libraries renewals to 10 renewals per item. This equates to roughly 3.5 years for faculty, staff, and graduates and 1.25 years for undergraduates. The change is to improve stewardship and availability of the IU South Bend Libraries’ collection to students, faculty, and staff by encouraging quick use and return of items.
While faculty are encouraged to return items by their due dates, we recognize that some faculty are not monitoring email over the summer. Due to this factor and to avoid adding to the stress of the beginning of the fall semester, the library’s goal is to have materials returned by October 15, 2022.
