According to Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?”
IU South Bend students, faculty, and staff will join hands for a day of service at the YWCA North Central Indiana (1102 Fellows St.) on MLK Day, Monday, January 17. Volunteers will organize the donation room, move some donated items to storage, and transport other items to Goodwill or to a local recycling center.
While the day of service will run from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., volunteers are being asked to commit to a two-hour time block to limit the number of volunteers present at any one time. To sign up for your block of time, please visit: https://iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bQ0N6Na7EaIT27k. Feel free to sign up for more than one block of time if spots are available and you would like to do so!
Please note that all volunteers should check their email on the evening of Sunday, January 16, for any changes or cancellation of the event due to inclement weather or a surge in COVID-19 cases. If, for any reason, we need to change the date of service, we will inform everyone who has signed up for the event in advance.
Finally, on the day of service please wear comfortable clothes and note that we will be following all IU COVID-19 protocols, including the wearing of masks (please wear one or even two of the very best masks you own) and observing social distancing rules. Snacks and water will be available for volunteers.
This day of service is sponsored by the IU South Bend Criminal Justice Student Organization, the Honors Club, the Office of Student Life, and the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
