Join us Thursday, September 25th from 6:30 – 8:00 PM in The Grill (IUSB Admin. Bldg. Cafeteria) for an engaging presentation on critical thinking.
Participants will learn about:
Differences between facts and opinions, claims and arguments
Importance of the scientific method
Common rhetorical devices and logical fallacies
Confirmation bias, tribalism, and other common biases that affect our reasoning
Fact-checking resources
How to talk productively with someone who disagrees with you
Get a taste of what Drs. Bennion (POLS) and Borshuk (PSYCH) teach in their critical thinking courses. Learn about cognitive biases and common logical fallacies. Test your knowledge in a fun interactive format!
This event can be attended as a stand-alone event or to earn a Civic Leadership Academy Certificate. The event is free and open to the public.

This event is part of the American Democracy Project’s Fall 2025 Civic Leadership Academy. People who attend all three events in Part 1 of this series and complete brief self-administered online quizzes will earn a Civic Leadership Academy participation certificate (for Civic Leadership Academy Part 1: Thinking and Acting as An Informed Citizen).
