Skype for Business to Teams Phones migration update
Nearly 400 faculty, staff and students on the IU South Bend campus will be migrated from Skype for Business to Teams Phones by the end of February. If you are on the list to be migrated, you should get a direct email one week prior to the migration. You should get a follow up email the day before and another email the day you are migrated. If you do not receive any emails, then you are not yet scheduled to be migrated.
Whatever device you are currently using for your phone today should continue to work. This includes the following devices:
- A headset
- Microphone and speakers
- A phone that only works when you are logged into your computer
What will be different? The big difference is the Skype for Business client will no longer function. Our UITS team will run something in the background to disable the Skype for Business client on your IU-issued computer, so you won’t see it once you are migrated. If you do see the client still, you can contact our Support Center and they’ll help you disable it. If you use the Skype for Business client on your own personal computer, you will have to disable the client.
The other difference is your phone calls will come to Microsoft Teams once you are migrated. You will also place phone calls from Teams. Teams has been available for some time – this is just the latest part of Teams to be enabled.
