As part of the Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) grant, Academic Affairs is taking applications for a Director of the Office of Professional Engagement for the remainder of the grant period (4 years, 4 months). The goal of this position is to standardize internship processes, expand community partners, and increase student awareness of and preparation for internships. The Director of the Office of Professional Engagement will report to the Special Associate Vice Chancellor for Advising and Retention.
Commitment: 12-month position. 75% FTE during the Academic Year and 100% FTE for two summer months (1-year contract renewable for the period of the grant)
Salary: AY Salary + 2 month salary for summer.
Start Date: June 1, 2023
Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach to existing and new internship sites and recruit new internship partners that meet student demand.
- Establish a new advisory board for the Office of Professional Engagement and meet quarterly with the board.
- Standardize internship processes, centralize internship forms and document repository, and develop web pages with resources for stakeholders.
- Recruit new students to internships through professional development workshops, marketing, class visits, one-on-one consultations, etc.
- Meet quarterly with Titan Team Leaders to ensure participation of Titan Teams students in workshops and provide additional support for them if needed.
- Provide workshops to prepare students for upcoming internship experience and support students during experience.
- Work with faculty to establish baseline outcomes for career learning to be included on syllabi and work with faculty to incorporate learning outcomes into classes.
- Provide professional development to faculty to integrate career learning into classes, including offering workshops through UCET and arranging annual visits to worksites.
- Work with Directors of Career Services and Community Engagement, academic units, and other stakeholders.
- Gather and maintain data on internship interest, participation and satisfaction to track SIP outcomes.
- Work with IU Center for Evaluation, Policy, & Research (CEPR) to conduct assessments through quantitative and qualitative methods.
- Other duties as needed/assigned.
Qualifications
- Tenured, senior lecturer or teaching professor.
- Experience with student internships or community engagement preferred.

Preferred Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Excel and Teams, and willingness to learn IU software systems.
- Familiarity with internship processes at IUSB.
