The American Democracy Project and the IU South Bend Libraries invite you to celebrate Constitution and Citizenship Day and Banned Books Week.
September 14 – September 21: Stop by the table in the lobby of the Schurz Library to pick up puzzle sheets about the constitution, handouts about banned books, and voter registration information. Check out a book to read from the banned book list to exercise your constitutional rights to freedom of speech and press.
Constitution and Citizenship Day is celebrated nationally on September 17 and commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. Banned Books Week is celebrated nationally from September 18-24, 2022, and “seeks to promote two basic democratic tenets: freedom of conscience, including the right to express individual views in any format, and unrestricted public access to library materials of all kinds.” (https://www.mtsu.edu/first-amendment/article/1041/banned-books-week)
