You might be wondering: what is Diwali? Here are a few things to know about this vibrant festival:
When & What: Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a five-day celebration that typically falls between October and November. This year, the festival begins on Monday, Oct. 20, with Lakshmi Puja lighting up homes and hearts. The celebration continues through Friday, Oct. 24, including special days like Dhanteras, Kali Chaudas, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj.
What It Means: Diwali symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. Families celebrate by lighting diyas (oil lamps), decorating with rangoli, exchanging sweets, and enjoying festive meals together.
