This event will bring together faculty from across Indiana for an ongoing dialogue focused on developing a “Third Way” pedagogical approach to undergraduate curriculum. We are not asking participants to create new courses or overhaul existing programs, but rather to engage in cultivating practical strategies that transcend current political polarization, fostering a more balanced and effective civic education model.
Hosted by Ball State in collaboration with Community Engaged Alliance, the Third Way Civics Workshop will take place on Monday, June 2, and Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Ball Brothers Family Mansion on the grounds of the Minnetrista Museum and Gardens along the scenic White River.
The workshop, led by Dr. Trygve Throntveit, an educator and author, will explore innovative pedagogical strategies that center civic learning in undergraduate instruction. The goal is to equip students with critical skills in information literacy, civic literacy, and agency.
In addition to the intellectual experience, we are pleased to offer the following for participants:
• Lodging at the Ball State University Hotel (if needed)
• All meals during the workshop
• A $600 stipend for active participation
The Office of Community Engagement and American Democracy Project will pay gas/mileage for drivers who carpool with other IU South Bend faculty.
