THE OFFICE OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT IS SEEKING FAULTY SPEAKERS for the POP-UP UNIVERSITY series.
POP-UP UNIVERSITY is a public lecture series featuring IU South Bend faculty presending brief (30-40 minute) talks on topic of public interest.
WE’D LOVE TO FEATURE TOPICS LiKE THESE:
- Evidence-based best practices in dental hygiene, nutrition, or exercise science. Wellness practices that work.
- The gap between worker productivity and wages. How the law of supply and demand works. The (ir)rationality of markets. Top tax tips.
- How to launch a business. Marketing advice for your business or nonprofit. Breaking the cycle of addiction & child abuse.
- The psychology of magic. How to write a poem. How to write a short story. How to publish your fiction. Best practices in speed reading.
- The physics of everyday life. Tips for public speaking. Best ways to promote student learning. Antipoverty programs that work.
- How to market your art. Music appreciation. Music therapy. Music and learning. Tips to improve your singing.
- Building vibrant communities. The sociology of food. How individuals can fight climate change.
- OTHER TOPICS OF GENERAL INTEREST DRAWN FROM YOUR TEACHING AND RESEARCH.
Each talk is followed by Q&A and discussion. Talks take place at Langlab, an informal multi-use co-workspace facility that engages multiple demographic groups in artistic, musical and intellectual experiences that represent the culture of our community. Guests are invited to arrive early to purchase cocktails, mocktails, coffee, tea, soft drinks, and snacks from the Langlab bar and to stay late to chat with friends — old and new. All talks are free and open to the public.
