NOON in Wiekamp 2105 (note this room change) Dec. 6 – Caitlin Vlaeminck PhD, RN, FNP-BC “Enduring Uncertainty Through the Lens of Osteoporosis: A Mixed Methods Study.” Open to all faculty, administrators, staff, and students.
Brief bio of our speaker:
Dr. Vlaeminck graduated from IU South Bend in 2010 with her Masters and obtained national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Upon graduation, she worked as an NP in general orthopedics. She maintains practice at Beacon Bone and Joint Specialists in South Bend. She has been the medical coordinator for the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation Osteoporosis Support Group at the LifePlex in Plymouth IN for the past 7 years. She co-authored “Osteoporosis and Evaluation of Fracture Risk” in Springer’s 4th edition of Advanced Health Assessment of Women.
In 2014, Caitlin joined IU South Bend’s School of Nursing faculty and is the current Graduate Program Director for the MSN program. Her passion is advocating for the role of the NP and helping new graduates find their voice. She authored Module 2: “Credentialing” for the Sigma Theta Tau International Online course: Surviving Your First Years as a Nurse Practitioner. She is the Past President and current member of the Coalition of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses of Indiana (CAPNI) which advocates for and supports Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.
She continued her passion for bone health by completing her Ph.D. in Nursing Science this spring at IUPUI. Her area of research was on patients with osteoporosis, looking at how the diagnosis of osteoporosis impacts patients’ health perception. She hopes to expand her scholarship of research to continue to impact the care of patients with osteoporosis.
