The Our Universe Revealed Lecture will feature a panel of scientists talking about the 2024 Nobel Prizes in Physiology/Medicine, Chemistry, and Physics.
Richard Dahl, IU School of Medicine and Adjunct professor in the Center for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine at University of Notre Dame will discuss the science behind the Physiology/Medicine prize awarded to two scientists for their discovery of micro RNA and how micro RNAs affect gene expression and control what cells do and when they do it.
Shahir Rizk, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at IU South Bend, will discuss the science behind the Chemistry 2024 Nobel prize (awarded to 3 scientists) for “cracking the code of protein’s amazing structures.”
Kevin Lannon, Department of Physics and Astronomy, and David Chiang, Department of Computer Science and Engineering at University of Notre Dame, will discuss the Physics 2024 Nobel prize awarded to two scientists who used tools from physics to develop methods that have been fundamental in developing artificial intelligence technology.
The Our Universe Revealed lecture series is a partnership between the St. Joseph County Public Library and Science faculty at IU South Bend and University of Notre Dame to explore diverse topics in science in an accessible way.
