Internship opportunity with the St. Joseph County Clerk’s Office
WORK THE VOTE INTERNSHIP – College Credit Available
Why intern with the St. Joe County Clerk’s office?
St. Joseph County has received a grant from the United States Elections Assistance Commission. The purpose of this grant is to engage high school and college-age students in county government through internships and involvement in elections. This is a new opportunity for students in St. Joseph County.
How many hours are required?
Internships will last at least four weeks, with longer durations available based on school requirements. Additionally, students have the option to work the polls on election day. Those who work the polls will earn $160-$260 for the day, receive a certificate from the Secretary of State, and be excused from school that day.
Our internship program is flexible and aims to provide a rewarding experience for participants. Interns and Election Day workers will have the opportunity to meet and connect with others in the community who are passionate about getting involved in government and elections.
It’s important to note that this grant is non-partisan, and its primary aim is to encourage young people to have a voice and impact in local government.
When would I work?
The time frame for internships will be mostly daily, Monday through Friday. If there are any weekend events that Work the Vote or St. Joe County are involved in, those will also count towards internship hours if the student chooses to participate. The hours available to the interns will be 8 am to 4 pm daily. Start immediately or during the first week of the fall semester.
What will I do?
The interns will have the opportunity to attend County meetings, file paperwork, and attend to the needs of the County Clerk and other elected officials within the County. This experience will contribute to their professional and personal growth.
Interns will enjoy a high degree of flexibility, with the option to work either online or on-site, depending on the needs of the County Clerk. This accommodation is designed to ensure that the internship fits seamlessly into the intern’s schedule and allows them to make the most of this valuable opportunity.
