Please join Bill Feighery (Chemistry) and Jake Mattox (English) for three meetings this semester to discuss parts of The Great Mistake: How We Wrecked Public Universities and How We Can Fix Them by Christopher Newfield. While not specifically focused on teaching approaches, this book explains the attacks on higher education over the past three decades and the current predicaments we face – predicaments that directly affect our students and our classrooms.
Meetings will start on Thursday, February 1 from 12-1. (If many people contact us with interest but have time conflicts, we can try to reschedule – so please do contact us!) We will start with pages 18-34 (a key part of the intro) and then, together, will choose the next readings and meeting times. Register by January 22.
Limited physical copies of the book are available in UCET on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact ucet@iusb.edu to inquire about picking up a copy. Additional copies may also be available through the IUSB Libraries.
