The Schurz Library is launching an expansion of its “Library of Things” collection at the request of a student to foster a sharing economy and support the campus community. The sharing economy concept has inspired many libraries to develop nontraditional collections of items or things to support their communities.
The Library of Things collection is composed of items to enhance coursework, support daily living, learn new skills, and for entertainment. This collection will include small household appliances, tools, markers, digital cameras, headphones, chargers, board games, health and wellness items, zoo passes, museum passes, and craft items.
The library will begin seeking donations of “things” to build the collection.
If you are interested in contributing items to build this collection, please view the list of things requested through a recent survey and indicate if you will supply the item. Items may be dropped off at the Circulation Desk of the Schurz Library. Donations of gently used items are encouraged.
You can also support the development of the Library of Things with a monetary donation to the Franklin D. Schurz Library Collection Endowment.
