CELEBRATE CONSTITUTION WEEK with IU SOUTH BEND’s AMERICAN DEMOCRACY PROJECT
Monday, September 19th – National Constitution Day Celebration (10AM – 4PM)
ADP will be tabling in the campus mall giving out pocket sized Constitutions, providing information about upcoming events, hosting Constitution themed games, and giving out popcorn and nachos to students who answer Constitution themed trivia questions! The official holiday was Saturday, but it’s never too late to learn about our Constitution and our rights! SIGN UP TO HELP HERE.
Tuesday, September 20th– National Voter Registration Day (10AM – 4PM)
ADP will be tabling around campus encouraging students to register to vote or check their registration status. Students can use our special IUSB-branded voter registration portal to register and not learn about ways to mobilize their peers. The ADP will be giving out goody bags with Mini American flags and snacks under the big IU tent at the center of the campus mall.
Tuesday, September 20th/Thursday September 22nd – Pizza & Politics: A Screening of the Critically Acclaimed Film “13” (1:00 – 2:15 PM)
In SAC room 223, ADP will be hosting a screening of the documentary film 13th. With powerful music and real talk, this film explores the intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration in the U.S.A., shedding light on a clause in the 13th amendment that limits people’s rights by criminalizing common non-violent behaviors. This event is open to students and faculty interested in watching the film in two parts while eating free pizza and engaging in discussion following the film.
Tuesday, September 20th – Constitutional Rights in the Post-Roe Era (4:00 – 5:30PM)
ADP will host a panel discussion with Q&A and discussion in this event on the Constitution, privacy rights, and how the recent Court decision overturning Roe will affect people in Indiana and throughout the USA. This event is co-sponsored by the QSA, FSU, and CJSO student organizations. Join us in the University Grill. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
Wednesday, September 21st – Register to Vote (or check your voter registration status) using our customized IU South Bend Voter Registration Portal!
Help rock the #StudentVote by proving that #IUSBVotes. We’ll share the total number of people registering through the portal with the campus community. Help us rock the Titan Vote!
Wednesday, September 21st: Stop by the table in the lobby of the Schurz Library to pick up puzzle sheets about the constitution, handouts about banned books, and voter registration information. Check out a book to read from the banned book list to exercise your constitutional rights to freedom of speech and press.
