The IU South Bend Veterans Book Club will have it’s first meeting on Thursday September 15 at 5:30 to discuss the graphic novel, True War Stories, edited by Alex Di Campi and Khai Krumbhaar. The meeting will be in Room 301 of the Schurz Library and on Zoom.
True War Stories is an anthology which includes anecdotes from fifteen American service members, illustrated by professional comic artists. Stories are from different time periods, ranging from funny to heartbreaking and include a variety of visual styles.
John Thompson, veteran and IU South Bend fine arts faculty member will be leading the discussion. He has published his own graphic novel
The Comely Widow: The Crimes of Serial Killer Belle Gunness . We look forward to learning more about the genre of graphic novels, and how art is an integral part of storytelling.
The book club meets periodically during the academic year to discuss a variety of works and genres related to the military, veterans, and war. Everyone on campus and in the community is welcome, you don’t have to be a veteran to participate. The discussion is always stimulating – please consider joining us!
