In Malawi, as well as many other countries, girls commonly miss a week of school during their monthly period due to a lack of supplies, limited bathroom facilities, and cultural stigma. This results in school dropout, infections, childhood marriage, and other preventable problems.
Please join us on Tuesday, March 8, International Women’s Day, for this service project. We will be cutting and sewing reusable sanitary napkins to be sent to girls in Malawi. If possible, please bring your own scissors. Also, if you own a sewing machine that we could borrow for the afternoon, please email Neovi Karakatsanis (nkarakat@iusb.edu). All other materials will be provided. This is a drop-in event, so feel free to stop by whenever you have time.
In addition to making reusable sanitary napkins, we will also be collecting small boxes of sanitary napkins and tampons for women and girls in South Bend who need them. Please look for our boxes in every building on campus, beginning today, March 1st. You may also bring any donations you have to the Party with a Purpose.
