If you are confused about who should get a third booster, you are not alone! The Indiana Department of Health has just updated their website to follow the newest FDA and CDC guidelines regarding COVID boosters. Here is what you need to know:
IF you have completed a series of Moderna OR Pfizer vaccine and IF you are diagnosed with or have the following conditions:
- Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
- Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
- Advanced or untreated HIV infection
- Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response
You are encouraged to seek a third booster of either Pfizer or Moderna COVID vaccine at least 4 weeks after second dose.
IF you have completed a series of Pfizer vaccine and IF you fall into the following categories:
- 65 years and older
- Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings
- Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
- Age 18+ who work in high-risk settings
- Age 18+ who live in high-risk settings
You may seek a third booster of Pfizer COVID vaccine at least 4 weeks after second dose.
