“I think that I shall never see, a poem lovely as a tree…”
Oh, really?
The campus Tree Committee is betting you can write – or find – a poem, haiku, rap, song, translation, or other piece of creative prose about trees.
Why?
To read it aloud, live and live streamed, at the Arbor Day celebration on the IU South Bend campus. The event takes place April 30, 2021, at 1:30pm EST on Greenlawn. Three Tulip Poplar trees, the state tree of Indiana, will be planted as part of the event and as a belated celebration of IU’s Bicentennial.
Following the planting, 5 people will share their poem/haiku/rap/song in front of a small, socially distanced audience and a live streamed audience. Other submissions will be shared via campus social media after the event.
How?
Apply by April 16 by completing the survey at go.iu.edu/3HNd. Include the piece you have written OR one you know and love and want to read aloud to help us celebrate at the event.
