All IU South Bend faculty, staff and students are invited to attend a virtual Party with a Purpose on Saturday, February 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. The goal of the event is to raise awareness of health issues related to girls in developing countries, where young women often miss a week of school every month because they do not have feminine hygiene products to use during their menstrual cycle. During the party, participants will be cutting flannel, terrycloth, and waterproof fabric, which will later be assembled and sewn into washable, reusable pads for girls in Malawi, Africa.
During the Zoom session, the President of Malawi Matters, Phyllis Wezeman, an IU South Bend alumna, will present on the country of Malawi, on issues facing girls, as well as on Malawi Matters Program on Women and Girls and the organization’s ongoing work. She will also provide a display of items from Africa such as chitenje bags, handmade paper cards and journals.
No craft experience or other skills are needed. Materials will be provided for IU South Bend participants to pick up in advance of the event in the Honors Program. To join, please RSVP via Titan Atlas: https://titanatlas.iusb.edu/event/6740599. A Zoom link will be sent to all who RSVP.
