Join open-microphone poets taking their beat before welcoming featured artist Andrea Sawyer-Kirksey.
The Poetry Den is a space for new and experienced poets to share beauty with words.
If you’re looking to share in a safe and welcoming space, send a message to sign up for the open microphone. Poets may perform in-person at the CRHC (masked at all times, including during your performance) or online via Zoom.
After the open microphone poets set the virtual stage, stay to hear this month’s featured poet, Andrea Sawyer-Kirksey.
Andrea has over 30 years of experience as an educator, justice advocate, and program development professional. She is an avid storyteller and sought-after speaker on the topics of anti-racism, cultural humility, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her work centers on developing people-of-color centered programming that produces passionate, empathetic community leaders. She currently serves as the Executive Director of Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection (DOOR). Born and raised on the west side of Chicago, Andrea and her wife, Nanette, now live in Rogers Park.
The Poetry Den is free and public participation is encouraged. Because some poets may use mature language, attendance by those 18 and over is encouraged.
