The Gregory S. Fehribach Center at Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis hosts an internship program for Indiana college students with physical disabilities (mobility, orthopedic, visual, & hearing) in which students are placed in a full-time, paid internship in a position that correlates with their academic major. To this point, 101 students from 30 colleges have completed a total of 184 internships, with 48 students from 25 colleges interning in the summer of 2020. While Eskenazi Health has hosted the great majority of interns, other employers such as Eli Lilly, BraunAbility, Chase Bank, Conexus Indiana, the State of Indiana, the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, and Christel House International have hosted interns facilitated through the program. In addition to the internship, housing and transportation assistance is provided as needed, and professional development opportunities are offered for Fehribach Center interns. Internships are available for students who just finished their freshman year of college up to graduates within the last calendar year, and internships can be provided for all academic majors.
Applications for a summer internship are due by January 31. To apply, students simply need to email Fehribach Center staff members Larry Markle (larry.markle@eskenazihealth.edu) or Carlos Taylor (carlos.taylor@eskenazihealth.edu) a resume, cover letter, and three letters of reference. More information is available on the attached brochure, and a short video about the program is on the Fehribach Center’s website (https://www.eskenazihealth.edu/programs/fehribach-center). Please feel free to contact Larry Markle or Carlos Taylor with any questions you may have.
