Dr. Gerenser, a political theorist who teaches American political thought, will answer the question: Is the democratic experiment working?
Dr. Smith, an American politics professor who teaches courses on the presidency and congress will talk about what lessons we have learned about the strength of our political institutions.
Dr. Heller, who teaches in the Women’s and Gender Studies program and directors the IU South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center will consider how constructions of race and gender contribute to party polarization and violence.
Dr. Lisoni, a comparative politics scholar who teaches courses on democracy and authoritarianism in Latin America, will offer a global perspective about the fragility, and strength, of American democracy.
This event will be moderated by Dr. Elizabeth Bennion, Professor of Political Science and Director of IU South Bend’s American Democracy Project.
