Presented in partnership with the School of Social Work, Civil Rights Heritage Center, and the IU South Bend Alumni Association our conversation will feature guest artist Semaj Brown presenting her epic poem “Mother Ocean: The Making of a New Tribe.” Semaj Brown is a poet, author, dramatist, science educator, playwright and the first poet laureate of Flint, Michigan.
Following the reading of “Mother Ocean,” Brown will discuss with Otrude Moyo, professor and director of the School of Social Work, how her piece relates to power, oppression, and complicity as we wrap up our fall series. We will use breakout rooms to continue the discussion.
