Phishing attacks require continued diligence. Phishing emails trying to exploit COVID are on the rise.
These are stressful times and UITS is here to give you some pointers to help you from being phished. Nefarious senders of phishing emails are stepping up their efforts to con you. Please remember to take the time to assess the validity of every email message before clicking links, downloading attachments or providing information to an unknown third-party.
Here are a few pointers to help you avoid being phished:
- It is very important to validate that the from address is actually the sender’s legitimate address.
- Emails from outside our organization will contain the [External] flag in the subject line. Pay special attention to these messages as phishing attempts will most likely occur outside of IU.
- Never email passphrases, personal or financial information.
- Be cautious about opening any attachment or downloading any files from emails you receive, regardless of who sent them.
- Never click on a link in an email whose author you do not know.
- Look for digital signatures on email messages from within IU, this provides an easy mechanism to validate the actual sender.
