Have you been thinking about accepting more online assignment submissions now that Canvas makes it so easy? Is the one thing holding you back the student that says they submitted an assignment to Canvas and you just didn’t get it or you cannot find their submission? Sometimes this frustration can make you want to go back to paper copies, or even keep you from using electronic submissions at all.
But, Canvas assignments can actually help with this. When a student submits an assignment, there is a three point check system they have for verifying the assignment submission went through. From the assignment view, students will see:
➊ A large green check mark and the words “Turned In!”
➋ A date and time stamp the assignment was submitted (as well as an option to review the submission).
➌ The original “Submit” button has changed to read “Re-submit Assignment,” indicating the assignment has already been submitted at least once.
Consider making it a course policy that verification of electronic submissions within Canvas is the responsibility of the student. Please feel free to borrow the graphic above to utilize in a Canvas announcement or to post in your course syllabus. Know a colleague who might benefit from this information?
