The Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design is hosting Debbie Millman, one of the most influential designers, on Friday, January 17th, 5:00 PM- 6:00 PM. This lecture will be held in the Fine Arts 015 room.
Whether you’re a Graphic Designer or not, Debbie Millman is full of personality and insight being a writer, designer, educator, artist, brand consultant, and host of her podcast Design Matters. Design Matters is one of the world’s first and longest-running podcasts, interviewing nearly 500 artists, designers and cultural commentators over the past 14 years. Furthermore, Debbie’s designs have appeared in publications such as the New York Times and has received awards for her notable work and visual storytelling. An additional interesting fact is, in 2009 Debbie co-founded the world’s first graduate program in branding, at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. With this in mind, this is such an exciting opportunity to meet an influential designer here at Indiana University!
This event is particularly exciting for me because I’m pursuing an undergraduate degree in the B.F.A. of Graphic Design at The Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design. Few Graphic Design speakers of Millman’s caliber come to Indiana University, so it’s a special event for the department. Last semester in one of my Graphic Design classes, I read a couple of Debbie Millman’s books, for example, Brand Thinking and Other Noble Pursuits as well as How to Think Like a Great Graphic Designer. Both of these books educated and inspired me to think outside of the box in terms of digital communication. She is full of wisdom with her knowledge and experience in the industry.
If you’re looking for an unforgettable Friday night, I wouldn’t miss this opportunity!. Also, following the guest speaker, there is an opening reception of a new exhibition in the Grunwald Gallery titled: New + Next. This is a faculty show celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design.
