Friends are with us through all the different stages of our lives. Even at the toddler stages, we are aware of what a friendship is and feels like. As we mature through the years, the relationship changes and develops. However, when that friendship is real, no matter the changes in our lives, we manage to stay connected with one another. COVID-19 has attempted to test our friendship, but we have found ways to remain together at heart. This week’s playlist is dedicated to those friendships that remain strong no matter the distance.
Council staff member Erin Kelley’s song pick, “My Heart’s Tonight in Ireland” by Andy Irvin, perfectly captures how we treasure those moments spent with our friends when apart. According to Erin, Irvin wrote this song about the time he spent with his first band called Sweeney’s Men. Erin says, “It’s a little sad and nostalgic (it’s an Irish song) but I find it’s definitely capturing my mood lately; I miss my friends, and I find myself thinking not only of things we were doing weeks ago but also years ago. The solitude of quarantine is perfect for reminiscing!” What song makes you reminisce that treasured time spent with friends?
